Figure Drawing 9/22

sadieqhall

During the beginning of September, Tommy Van Auken came in to teach our class about figure drawings, including topics like gesture drawings, contour, and subtractive drawings. It was an amazing learning experience and I personally saw a lot of improvement from the previous year.

We began with learning about gesture drawings. The most important part of these was capturing the movement in a figure and making it feel like one continuous shape.

Next, we moved on to contour, where we focused on drawing the shapes that we saw and not any precept of what a figure may look like.

Then, we focused on subtractive drawing with a final longer study. The goal of this was to capture all of the proportions and values of the figure, as well as movement.

I learned a lot about figure drawing from this clinic, and saw a ton of improvement in my drawings throughout the experience.
