As my first semester home project in art 5, I decided it would be a good idea to create a strong piece to add to my body of work.
For this piece, I started by picking my color scheme, which is going to be mainly greens and a bit of orange. I started with a larger canvas, 30"x40", and got to work on an underpainting. I decided that a mix of grey, black, and white tones would suit the bigger canvas and add some contrast, knowing I will definitely add in more white later in the process.
Then, I got to work on making some bigger marks. In my pieces, I find that starting out with very large marks and later working out the details makes for a very interesting piece with complex layers. I also wanted to incorporate some graffiti-like marks and collage into this painting, so I began to prep the collage materials and plan out my graffiti marks.
