For Q3, the art at the lunchtime lecture featured Lily May's work, an artist who goes by the pseudonym Grendel Menz.
I absolutely love Lily's work. Many of their pieces are presented in a comic fashion, which I think makes the art interesting and add a personal creative touch to it. Many of their comics also revolve around appealing color palates that are great at catching peoples' eyes. I think that their use of color in their work is really clever, since they use colors that both show enough contrast to show depth in their pieces, but not too different that it would stray from the color palate of the comics.
My favorite part about their work is their drawing style. To me, it is the perfect balance of sketchy enough to look smooth and elegant, but precise enough to look detailed and complex.
Lily May's work is really inspiring, especially since they have taken a simple enough topic, comics, and turned it into an incredible collection of personal art. I think it is really smart that they used comics to convey exactly what written messages they wanted to, while also being able to express themselves through their drawings and colors.
