2/3
For this project, I decided to continue with abstract painting to improve my skills and use what I learned from my last piece. I also have the challenge of creating this piece with a limited color palette. I was allowed 4 colors to use to create this piece in order to help with the clutter of the finished product.
I began with a partially black underpainting to give the piece some variety from the beginning.
The underpainting I decided on actually turned out looking pretty cool and gave me some ideas for how to create varied marks in the rest of my painting.
After this, I moved on to the first layer. One thing I liked about my last abstract piece was the drips from the first layer coming through, so I made sure to include a lot of drips and also use larger marks on the starting layers. I also did include some brighter colors that I could let come through the layers if I liked them.
2/10 update
After this, I began adding layers of brighter colors and thicker paint to build texture. I added many more layers over this, creating practically color even with my limited color palette. I wanted the painting to be dark and have a black backdrop while having pops of color and graffiti marks.
After I finished the main painting, I went over some of the marks with oil pastels and chalk to highlight certain colors and add to the graffiti effect. I tried to highlight many of the larger marks and symbols with the pastels and made some new marks with the chalk.
